The Board of Governors of St. Stanislaus College was recognised for the second time as being the most improved secondary school in Guyana on Thursday evening. The event was commemorated with their annual dinner. The event focused on showing appreciation to the teaching staff of the school for their dedication which has led to some of the achievements of the school. As a result of this latest achievement, the Canada alumni donated in excess of $800,000 to the school. The decision was taken to divide the sum between the teaching staff and cheques were presented to them during Thursday evening’s event.Chairman of the St. Stanislaus Board of Governors, Chris Fernandes, told the gathering that the Board was established in 2005 by the Ministry of Education.According to him, the Board initially comprised 14 former students of the school, three parents and one former teacher who took up the challenge to make St. Stanislaus what they knew it was when they were at school — “the number one school in the country.”He added they considered it a work in progress which began in October 2005 when they had to first of all improve the facilities of the college. Fernandes said that the teaching staff which was down in spirit at the time.Fernandes said that the college has had a very good year. In 2006 the school recorded 100 grade ones passes at the Caribbean Examinations Council. This year it recorded 244 grade ones passes. It has not yet come, three years later.”He pointed out that he spoke with the Minister of Education, Sheik Baksh, and told him that they need to meet before the end of the month because the Board cannot afford to not have a subvention next year.A part of the success, he said, has been the tremendous support from our alumni both local and overseas.President of the St. Stanislaus College Association Executive, Nigel Hughes, delivered a message from the President and Executive Toronto alumni who pledged their passion and dedication to the school and relentless pursuit of funds for the college. Also, that they are looking forward to hearing in the near future that the college is the best in Guyana. The alumni association also promised to increase its support to St. Stanislaus in the coming year. The school Headmistress, Esther Mc Garrell, in a brief address on the school’s activities over the past year, said that the college was faced with man challenges but was nonetheless able to prevail and perform beyond expectations.According to her, during the year under review the college was faced with  many challenges and among the most significant of these were the resignation of eight members of staff, the death of one teacher, the promotion of the acting deputy head teacher to St. Mary’s High School and the movement of teachers to other institutions.Mc Garrell noted that the board quickly corrected this situation by appointing other teachers. She complimented the old members of staff and the new appointees for the numerous successes of college. The teachers that were awarded cheques are Headmistress, Esther Mc Garrell; Deputy Head Mistress, Donette Daniels; Heads of Department, Arlene Rodrigues-Duff, Berchel Skeete, Colin Moses, Esther Persico, Roxanne La Fleur, Vaunda Wayne and Walter Wilson; senior teachers Mansoor Baksh and Ruth Ross.Teachers Bonni Adonis, Devina Deputron, cheap jerseys nfl wholesale, Dorey Allicock,Cheap Jerseys Supply, Dwarka Nauth, Eugene Thompson,Cheap NFL Jerseys Supply, Gerard Gilkes,Cheap Jerseys Free Shipping, John Choy, Kennard Pickette, Latoya Towler, Melissa Glen, Racquel Gill, Renaldo Fleming, Roland Charles, Rudolph Deoraj, Shunella Anthony, Stephon Sookhan, Umain Harris, Uzzi Yisrael, Yolanda Cato, Wendell Archer, Elaine Seecharran and Ariola Barrow were also arrested.       Guest speaker at the event was Canadian High Commissioner, Charles Court.
